Dr. Ozlem Dilek received her B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Chemistry from Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey. She obtained her Ph.D. in Chemical Biology from State University of New York at Binghamton, USA in 2009 under the direction of Prof. Susan L. Bane, where she studied synthesis and spectroscopic properties of fluorescent boron dipyrromethene derivatives for bioorthogonal site-specific labeling of proteins in live cells. In 2010, she won the prestigious ACS Zappert Awardfor her outstanding Ph.D. Student and several other ASCB and EMBO national awards. From 2009-2013, she didher postdoctoral study at Cornell University, NY and then continued her collaborative postdoc research at University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and SUNY, USA. Her researchinterests mainly focused on developmentand applications of novel fluorescent chemical tools for fluorescent imaging of proteins inside living cells and also studying new diagnostic click chemistry strategies for oxidative stressimaging in cancer and neurodegenerative systems. She holds more than 15journal publications, one US patent andbook chapters, including a peer-reviewed new chapter in Encyclopedia of Luminescence. She also presented her work in more than 25 international and national conferences. Dr. Dilek joined the School of Medicine at Istanbul Kemerburgaz University in 2013. She held and directed two grants including National Turkish Career Grant (TUBITAK) and European COST grants. She is serving as MC (management committee) member of COST European organization and Ambassador of ASCB. She recently joined as a new faculty to Husson University, Biochemistry Program in Maine.
