8 Workshop on FRET microscopy -2017
University of Virginia - W.M. Keck Center for Cellular Imaging. The W.M. Keck Center for Cellular Imaging, a University Imaging Center is sponsoring an advanced course on fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) microscopy. The workshop will be an intensive lecture/laboratory series that will enable participants to develop theoretical and hands-on expertise with various FRET microscopy techniques. Attendees will closely interact with the teaching faculty and assistants while using modern research grade microscopes equipped with essential filters, objective lenses, high-sensitivity detectors (CCD cameras and PMTs), and state-of-the-art user friendly software. This four days intensive course includes morning lectures and afternoon hands on training on FRET microscopy systems. Experienced staff from universities and industry will provide instruction. With a maximum enrollment of 20 students, there will be ample opportunity to the attendees can work with various state-of-the-art FRET microscopes, video cameras, recorders, and image processing software.

This course is designed primarily for research scientists, postdoctoral trainees, and advanced graduate students in animal, plant, medical, and material sciences. Non-biologists seeking a comprehensive introduction to microscopy and digital imaging will benefit greatly from the course. Some prior theoretical or practical understanding of the basic principles of optics and microscopy is necessary. This 10 day course is limited to 26 students. It consists of correlated lectures, laboratory exercises, demonstrations, and discussions that will enable the participant to obtain and interpret microscope images of high quality, to perform quantitative optical measurements, and to produce high quality digital video, and digital records for documentation and analysis.
